Ari Ben-Yishay MD is a spinal surgeon who is board certified by the American Board of Spinal Surgery and board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is the founding member of Comprehensive Spine Care and has been in practice in northern New Jersey since 1994.

Dr. Ben-Yishay received his undergraduate degree in Biology at the State University of New York at Binghamton, graduating with Phi Beta Kappa honors and receiving the Charles S. Aswad Award , a distinction given annually to a single graduating pre-med student for overall academic excellence. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society in 1986. Dr. Ben-Yishay completed a general surgery internship at Mount Sinai medical Center in New York. He then completed a five year general orthopedic residency including a one year bioengineering fellowship at the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopedic Institute in New York. He received a number of awards during his training including the Senior Resident Research Award, presented annually to the chief resident judged by committee to have written and presented the most significant research paper. He was the recipient of the Frauenthal Traveling Fellowship Award, presented annually to a single graduating resident for excellence in Orthopedic research and academics. He was also recipient of the American Orthopedic Association - Zimmer Annual Travel Award for Orthopedic Residents and the Orthopedic Resident Teaching Award, presented annually to a single resident for excellence in didactic teaching. He has authored a multitude of research papers, textbook chapters and a nationally recognized manual for orthopedic trauma and fracture treatment used in many emergency rooms and residency programs.

Following his residency, Dr Ben-Yishay decided to specialize in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of spinal disorders. In 1994 he completed a one year fellowship in spinal surgery at the prestigious Texas Back Institute, the largest freestanding spine center in the country. Following his fellowship, Dr. Ben-Yishay began his private practice in Bergen county, NJ, founding Comprehensive Spine Care in 1996.

Dr. Ben-Yishay has a strong background in conservative, non surgical care and prides himself on exhausting all reasonable means prior to recommending surgical treatment. If invasive treatment is warranted, he has extensive experience and training in the entire spectrum of minimally invasive procedures as well as in conventional and state of the art modern surgical techniques. His practice spans the spectrum of degenerative disc disorders, sports and work related spine injury, scoliosis, tumor surgery, cervical disc replacement and complex reconstructions and revisions of failed spine surgery patients. He also has added training and expertise in spinal cord stimulation for chronic pain management.

Dr. Ben-Yishay believes that patient education and quality time spent reviewing a patients individualized spine complaints are critical in establishing a strong doctor patient relationship, one that will more often lead to a successful outcome with high patient satisfaction. His staff and partners share these values which together form the basis for this highly respected practice. Dr. Ben-Yishay has active membership in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the North American Spine Society, New Jersey Medical Society, Bergen County Medical Society and the New Jersey Spine Society. He is on staff at Hackensack University Medical, Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, Englewood Hospital and a founding partner at the Hudson Crossing Surgical Center in Fort Lee where he performs many outpatient spine surgical procedures in a state of the art, modern facility. He is the recipient of the Consumers Research Council award for “Americas Top Orthopaedists and Spinal Surgeons” for 2004-5 and 2008.
