Back issues are by far some of the most common issues amongst adults and even many children, across the US. The back is an essential part of your body, acting as a means of stabilization for your entire body, both the upper and lower portions. The back also houses the spinal cord, which is the most of vital aspect of our central nervous system and acts as the control center for all of our body’s movements and all our sensory receptors. According to Dr. Evan Baird, the top spine surgeon NJ has to offer, with such a vital role in our everyday function as well as being a main pain center for the body – back issues aren’t to be taken lightly. This makes back surgery a very common concern amongst adults, especially men, as they have the highest tendency to throw out their backs and suffer certain types of damage. When you ask any spine surgeon, they will tell you, that back surgery is not without its risks, and being such a sensitive area of the body can mean a lot of issues for individuals moving forward through life. And despite how dangerous it can be, as the years have worn on, back surgery has become extremely commonplace. And despite how common it might be, many are still unaware of what it exactly entails. The best thing you can do, as potential back surgery candidate is to follow these important do’s and don’ts about the procedure.

The most important thing you can understand, according to Dr. Evan Baird, a top spine surgeon from New Jersey’s Comprehensive Spine Care is that preparation is a key factor in the success of your surgery. The more you prepare yourself for what’s to come, the better and more successful your surgical procedure is likely to go.

· DO: Educate Yourself as Much as Possible on Your Issues

The thing is that while it is vital to put yourself in the hands of someone like Dr. Evan Baird, the top spine surgeon NJ has in practice, it is just as important to educate yourself well before surgery. This will help you to avoid certain triggers, and to truly understand what is happening, will help you to make suggestions and properly have a strong advantage during your surgical procedure. While there is almost no substitute for a doctor’s advice, this can definitely make a difference.

· DON’T: Lay in Bed All Day

Back pain is one of the most debilitating conditions out there, and considering that the back and spine are main connectors of different areas of and facilitates movements, any back pain can be quite severe. Despite this, it is vital that you get as much physical activity as possible before your surgery. Laying around, gaining weight, and not moving all day can make your back and spine infinitely worse than it might usually be had you been walking and moving around briskly.

· DO: Get a 2nd Opinion

Despite being the top spine surgeon NJ has to offer, Dr. will often advise his surgical patients to get a second opinion. It is important to know that just because one person says surgery, doesn’t mean it’s a definite. Others might feel that you may actually be harmed by surgery and it would be better to just go through rehab.

· DON’T: Take NSAIDs

These non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs might help for most common joint and muscle pain. However, it is important that you understand that you must cease use of them within a few weeks of your surgery, as they tend to thin blood which can cause grave issues during your surgery and prevent proper healing.
